Today is my Birthday.
I'm 57.
Kinda of an ugly number? (Mr. Monk would hate it ....cuz it's uneven).
Inside of everyone's heart, on their birthday, they want to be remembered.
Oh, one might say..."No big deal." "It's just another day!" "I don't want any attention, thank you!"
But that's a lie.
Don't believe it...we ALL want to be remembered on our birthday!
And, I was!
I appreciate it so much!
I got numerous phone calls, cards, hugs, b-day songs, "best wishes", flowers, money, cologne, candy, lotion, a pedicure coupon, love letters, my dishwasher fixed, a temple bag ..... from many friends and family!
It really made my day!
Ty and Ky made the big effort to come out and bring me supper! (Steve is out of town tonight).
Oh........I almost cried, It felt so good.

I was asked to give a talk at a Relief Society Birthday dinner.
Theme: Let your light so shine before men that they man see your good works and glorify God.
Here are a few favorite quotes from what I shared:
Live so that those who
know you but don’t know Him.
Will want to know Him because they know you.
One of President Monson’s special requests (as a Prophet of God), is for each member of the Church to “find someone who is having a hard time, or ill or lonely, and do something for him or her.”
“My brothers and
sisters, we are surrounded by those in need of our attention, our
encouragement, our support, our comfort, our kindness; be they family
members, friends, acquaintances, or strangers.
We are the Lord’s hands here upon the earth, with the mandate to serve and to lift His children. He is dependent upon each of us.”
“Doing
good is a pleasure, a joy beyond measure.
A blessing of duty and love."
Remember how Mom helped Alice become active in the church?
You never know when someone might catch a dream
from you.
You never know when a little word or something that you might do,
May open up a window of a mind that seeks the light.
The way you teach may not matter at all, but
you never know, it might.
And just in case it could be that another's
life through you
Might change for the better with a broader, brighter view.
It seems it might be worth a try to do what you know is right.
The way you live may not matter at all, but you
never know, it might.
Pres. Utchdorf: In the end, the number of prayers we say may
contribute to our happiness but the number of prayers we answer may be of even
greater importance. Let us open our eyes
and see the heavy hearts, let us feel the silent prayers of others around us
and let us be an instrument in the hands of the Lord to answer those prayers.
I asked my husband to help me figure out how
long in (God’s) time we are on earth.
Brigham Young said that one day in Kolob’s
time is 1000 years earth time.
We calculated it… and
if we lived to be 85 years old,
we are only here on earth
2 hours, Kolob time.
Two measly little
hours …in eternity?
And yet so much depends on the what
we do here.
Surely, we can let our light so shine and do good works, for 2 little tiny hours of mortality?
Sister Sheri Dew: I have felt grief, you
have felt grief.
But
I can not imagine pain greater than stepping across the veil
and realizing I had not done what I had come here to do.
The theme of the night was centered around the them from the Wizard of Oz..
...making our way back home.
Young Dorothy sings, in the Wizard of Oz, of a place…
“somewhere
over the rainbow, way up high.”
A place
“where… troubles melt like lemon drops,
away above the chimney tops…That's where you'll find me.”
That’s
where WE want to be found also… a way up high…and encircled in the arms of our
Heavenly Fathers love,
feeling His gratitude …
for OUR being a light to the
world
and in doing good works to glorify Him.

This picture caught me eye.
It's from the Church news.
Study it a moment.
I said to Steve..." On look at these skinny skinny kids."
BB: "None of them have decent clothes."
He said: "Do they look happy?
BB: "Well, Yeah, they do."
SB: "Where do they live?"
BB: In a country of South Africa....Sierra Leone."
SB: "What are they happy about?"
BB: "Article says they are happy cuz the Church helped them get clean water....so they won't get sick so much."
SB: "wow. Such a simple (take it for granted) thing!"
BB: "Contrast with the young kids in America, who aren't happy.
Many are overweight.
Only worried about which video game they can get next or riding their 4 wheelers/ snowboards or other fancy toys.
They (we) have everything, and are they (we) even happy?"
Causes one to ponder....doesn't it.....about what makes us happy???
What IS necessary after all?

President Vaughan J. Featherstone:
"I promise you that all who faithfully attend to temple work will be blessed beyond measure.
Your families will draw closer to the Lord,
unseen angels will watch over your loved ones when Satanic forces tempt them,
the Veil will be thin and great spiritual experiences will distill upon this people."
