8 mm film

I like old things, did you know?
That said...and seeing this made my head go a million places.
(click on enter then film -  it's tiny at the bottom - then pick a film)
Like, how many times have I passed up old 8mm cameras at garage sales?
Oh, about a million.
They are super cheap on ebay.
But where to buy - the film - getting it digitalized so others can enjoy.
Just all of that.

This isn't the real deal but a pretty nice fake.

Or as my husband would say.
"naga-8mm"
Everything at our home that is not the 'real deal' is - NAGA.
As in nagawood, nagaplant, nagasalmon (that would be salmon patties from Costco).

I had to admit it, don't have time - or room for another hobby...so NAGA 8MM will have to do.

Have you ever wondered what a dozen grands look like?

They look pretty amazing, don't you agree?
Our son, the real photographer, took a few snaps when we were together for the wedding.
We had a play day.

I could go on and on about each one of these precious kids.
But well, you know a Grandma and her kiddies, sometimes a bit annoying.

Oh, what is that?
You are begging me to?
Even though it is sort  like watching home movies.

Well, alrighty then.

Beginning at the left.
Mr O..his name is Owen - he loves the letter O and we call him "O". He is  a 'sleeper' because he is shy but OH SO SMART. For example he can recite the 13 Articles of Faith, and the other day he sounded out and learned to play the theme from Star Wars on the piano. He is my favorite.

Cam Cam - Camryn is a rule keeper. She is very disciplined and wants to do 'it' exactly right. Every parents dream kid. For example, we had a big bouncy toy to play on...it said 200 pound limit. So Cam asked everyone how much they weighted so we wouldn't go over the weight limit and play 'right'. No surprise she does very well in school. She is my favorite.

Miss Ashtyn - is a princess. She doesn't play like she is a princess. She IS a princess. (Note high heels and skirt on a play day.) She likes things pretty and she is pretty...inside and out. She loves to be on the stage and she loves to do big princess bows. She is my favorite.

Spence - Spencer is a miniature of his father.....in every way. He can fix things. He likes to discover. He is gentle and kind. And um, he likes to be gently persuaded so it is HIS idea. Once he buys into it, he is 100% on board. Committed. Devoted to the idea. He is my favorite.

"B" - our Brookey. Little Miss Athlete. She is nimble and agile like a puma. She can do anything with her flexible strong body. She quickly obeys. Brooke will you?...and before you can finish your sentence she is doing it. Hip-pity hop. She is my favorite

Miss Sarah Sue - Sarah Anne - Can sing at a microphone an entire song BY HERSELF. "I can do it by MYSELF."  She is animated. She is expressive. She is scrappy. She is my favorite

Mayzer, or May May - Hailey May - a little echo to her older sister, Miss Ashytn. The best sister and play mate. She is so easy, an easy child to raise, affable, agreeable. Just a delightful little girl. Because she hums and sings - a lot, she and her sister make living in her home like living "A Musical". She is my favorite.

I am holding - Becky Girl -  Rebecca Rose. A tiny little girl. At seven months she crawls and is pulling herself up and walking along the couch. She has places to go. She is so quiet we sometimes forget she is in the room. This sweet littelest grandchild...she is my favorite.

Jacks - Jackson our oldest. WOW. What a power boy. Most especially talented in Math and on the piano. Watch out - world. He is bright and capable and a straight A kid - but even more importantly he is GOOD. He is a good brother, he chooses the right. He is my favorite.

Sum Pie Jo Jo - Summer - our China baby is held by her big brother Jackson. A delightful addition to our family. Jo Jo - is never still, note picture, she has places to go and things to do. We anxiously await to see what life has in store for this little powerhouse girl - the miracle of her being part of our family, is still breathtaking. She is my favorite.

RR is holding - The D man - Mr D - The Daltonator - Dalton. THE MOST PLEASANT big boy. He is always smiles and wiggley. He laughs easily. You can take him anywhere - he is so pleasant, if you have the energy to carry him. Thirty pounds at 10 months! He is like Nephi. He is my favorite.

"A"- Autumn nestled between Grandma Betty and I. Our oldest granddaughter. The perfect oldest. She is capable and willing. Aware of what is going on. Can sing like an angel. A mini-mom. A hard worker. She is my favorite.

And a side note...look how great Grandma Betty looks. RR's gentle - patient - soft spoken Mom. She is my favorite.

A man and his garden

We have a pretty tiny garden spot.

Nothing like Holly's (Click on that first picture to see how amazing her garden is...I know I have been there and seen it first hand..it takes your breath away it is so lovely!)

We love our little garden spot.

This time of year it literally "explodes" to life.

And Miss Amy Dawn..in honor or your birthday, we baked a chocolate zucchini cake today.

Ok - now what?

I applied.

I was accepted.

I didn't 'pick' a vendor spot.

I decided to just let 'fate' have it's due.

p.s. I don't really believe in 'fate'.

I believe in divine intervention as we attempt so do the right things.

(Actually, even when we do wrong things, I believe we are divinely blessed.

Heavenly Father watches over and blesses His children.)

I don't know if being RIGHT inside the door is a good or bad thing.

I will definitely have TRAFFIC.

I just have to figure out how to be 'show stopping'.

Maybe if they don't stop when they enter...they will before they leave.

So this next little adventure of "HeartRocks" in her Magic Room begins.

I am such a snob.

Or should I say...I am snubbed?

Maybe I am not the one looking down my nose perhaps someone is looking down THEIR nose at me.

Either way it is pretty ridiculous.

 But it still has my stomach doing flip flops.

I am thinking about going to participate in a pretty big arts and crafts fair here in Spokane.

The snob part comes in - realizing I have to admit what I do is probably more 'craft' than 'art'.

Which isn't necessarily a bad thing - or is it?

When you think 'craft' do you think chenille stems and fake fur?

I'd like to think I am even a bit 'collectible' as that is the label for my shows in the past.

But alas and alack - girls...I think we are crafts.

Now don't get all huffy. Remember our motto!

Time machine

At one of the shows.
A darling young girl flipping through the 'Found Paper Journals'.

Asked me an interesting question.
What language is this?

Ha Ha.
I told her actually.
It is English.
Like 1950's and 1960's English.
As I tried to explain...she just could NOT understand.
Oh...the times they are a changing.

I felt like an antique.
A collectible.

Guess where we have been?

Here are some great clues:
On the way - it you detour a bit you can pass this really fun, funky, artsy house.

In this city it is always the worst weather.
This day it was 102 and miserably hot.
Don't like this city so much.
Coming back through the wind was blowing about 40 miles put hour and it was still 102.
YUCK.
But this house is pretty fascinating.

A first glimpse of 'the other side' of the mountain.
Cool air.
Green.

Arriving at our destination via this...
How can this float?
Next to us was a cement truck.
Made me a bit nervous...I had Titanic feelings rise up in me.

I was, of course, with the really handsome man.
He is sniffing the air here.
He does a lot air sniffing.

As we arrive and this is what greets us.
Because we have been here several times before - just seeing this - caused a little rush.
Everyone waves here.
EVERYONE.
Not a full on wave - just the little finger lift above the steering wheel, if driving, or a side ways little tick-tock wave if walking.

While here RR was working and so I heard lots of words like 'erratic' and 'serpentine' and 'glaciation'.
They look like it was miserable work, don't they?

We have stayed here other times
The shower here - is just outside the door - in the open.
I didn't like that so much.

This time we stayed in a normal old motel with this view off the deck
(It is a tough job - but someone has to do it, right?)

Now, here is the best clue as to where we were.
Ready?
Holly is now the Mayor and has a cookbook.
Yes, book bought.
Name of book.
With Love and Butter.
YUM

Another local attraction that bears sharing.
Neils mall.
Which is actually the recycle center/transfer station.
Tidy.
Neat.

The best part.
Everything there is free.
In fact, the sign says it all.
"You have two choices.
Take it or leave it."

We love this little spot of heaven on earth.

Favorite words

Benign
I think is one of my most favorite.
I love others, like family, covenants, love - you know all the traditional ones.
But - benign.
Well, it is just one of my all time favorites.

On the road again - to the Vintage Barn Show

With my favorite helper/ partner/ team member.
He is truly 'the best'. A couple times, I said, "Thanks for helping me, sorry it is another Saturday." He said in typical RR fashion. "I'm glad I can help. It is enjoyable."

(A side story - one time in the dead of winter - we lived where we had no garage and parked on the street, the snow plow had managed to bury our car, yet again. RR shoveled out a little path for us to navigate - so we could get out and about. One late evening I needed to go out and RR reminded me to NOT back up..just go forward and then when you get home - honk and I will help you park the car so we can get out again.

I went outside and almost immediately got stuck - then thinking I was smarter than the snowdrift backed up, just a tiny bit. Sure as shooting, I was NOT stuck but HIGH CENTERED. That's right folks I only had ONE wheel touching the ground. No small feat, if I do say so myself. I tried to remedy the problem myself but of course, couldn't do a thing. I sheepishly went back inside to RR and confused my situation. He put on his winter gear, gathered a crow bar and shovel and other equipment and went outside to try and get  all four planted back on the fround. I went with him to offer assistance cheer him on. After about an hour of him laying on his stomach hacking away at the ice burg the car was teetering on, I said. "RR I am so sorry." He stopped, took off his gloves, blew his nose and wrapped his arms around me. "Oh Arlene, it is so nice to be outside here with you, to feel the cold crisp air, look at that moon."     

Words fail to express what a treasure it is to be married to this man.)

We were next to the chickens.
Nice chickens.

 

This show is a favorite.
I love the outdoor venue.

And friends. I have made friends with the vendors.

Virginia...who makes a nest as good a a bird.

 

Daphne, a long time 'vendor' friend that has tutored and encouraged and help me all along the way. Thanks Daphne. She also has great things in her shop. For those of you that have been to our home, the pantry by the back door came from Daphne.

And Pammy

A new friend, new to the Pacific Northwest from California that makes jewelry and wonderful shelves and these most interesting little vintage style bottles.

 

 

And Rolane..who really is the hostess with the mostest and her partner, Sharon. This year they did something I wasn't aware of last year, I don't know, I may have just missed it.
They opened the day with a prayer meeting.

I was so kind and well...inspiring.

 

People who love God, regardless of the church they attend - are  - well, they are gentle and kind and great to be around and work with.

It was a nice day.

A day where new friends were made and good feelings were present. I like to think God approved and sent blessings our way.

Mary Janes Farm Fair and Show

As if there isn't enough  going on.
Ranger Rick and I took all the goodies to a show on the 4th.
The Mary Janes Farm  Fair in Oakesdale Washington.
The little community fair was held  by this historic flour mill.

It was a delightful day.
Gunny sack races, a balloon toss, pony rides.
A walk about petting farm.

I love outdoor shows.
In small communities.

We aren't even going to unpack the pickup and trailer because...
We have another show on Saturday.
Another outside - WONDERFUL show.

I  have talked about Rolane and the amazing show she puts on.
