pile o' cases

Bunny soft and Downy fresh,

vintage fabrics that has been washed and washed again. In this case it is a pile of pillowcases (pun intended), all soft and clean and ready for flour sack bag linings. I have found a great 'recipe' for removing stains and particularly making pillowcases fresh again.
To the wash load add the normal amount of laundry detergent - also add dishwashing liquid (NOT FOR HAND WASHING) oh, my! NO. you will have a lot of bubbles...but the liquid used in a dishwasher. Like Cascade. I have switched to Electrasol tablets and so just tossed one in with the load. After it agitates for a bit let the load soak for a few hours and then just finish up washing.

Oh...and a side note, if you every have a case of too many bubbles, like we did when our favorite son put Dawn dish soap in the dishwasher instead of Cascade. A great trick...sprinkle salt on the bubbles to get them under control....it helps greatly. Of course, immediately wash away the salt as it is corrosive on appliances...but it makes all those billowing bubbly bubbles go away....and don't forget to get the giggles...as bubbles and giggles go together

I was all a blurrrrr....

It all began when I had the chance to Grandma sit these two little girls...

What could be more fun  than that, you ask? Weeeelllll.....
I needed to get some baking done and so the pumpkin cake was finally in the oven and the girls wanted to watch ELLA....(whoever Ella is...they had brought along the DVD)
No problem Grandma can do that. We do get the DVD in the player and then it all began...and the source of confusing was this...

Those adorable girls are now on the sofa bouncing and singing.  "Ella Elllllla Ellllaaaaa Ellla Elllllllllaaaaaaa ELLLAAAAELLLALALELLA".
Just a sec girls Grandma will get this figured out....(she says confidently as bug races are running across the screen!)....

Becomes overexcited and is running (RUNNING) through the house barking, skidding around corners, and leaping frogging over the couch and from one room to another...

Not to be one to quickly panic...although I am getting ANGRY with the entire remote situation...I find one clear moment and call my oldest son, the techno wiz....
WELLLLLLLLLLL it just so happens he is also alone with 3 young ones and trying to get supper on the table so the conversation goes like something like this:
"I can't get the DVD to work"
"Have you turned it on?
"YES"
"Sit down - have you washed your hands?"
"Why do I need to wash my hands?"
"No, Mom, not you, have you got the TV on the right channel?"
"Girls, you need to be quiet go in the other room, what channel should it be on?"
"HI, Grandma - you are suppose to be talking to ME." (sweet girls have phone in the other room...)
"Ashtyn you need to hang up the phone Grandma is trying to figure out how to make Ella work..I can't get to O...which remote should I be using?"
"No you can't have that until you eat all those beans, just push the up arrow until you get to 0."
"Grandma I have to go potty - you are suppose to be talking to ME."
"Come here Pepper you have to go outside....this is making me nuts, I can't figure out which remote does what."
"Just try the buttons on the front of the TV...Owen sit down - Camryn cover you mouth when you cough"
"ELLA ELLLLAAA ELLLLAAAALLLL Grandma we want Ella"
"Ashtyn - hang up the phone...sweetie - I need to talk to Carson..."
"I need to go potty NOW"
"Did you wash your hands - Camryn don't push him...."
"Never mind  - the timer is going off I have to get the cake out of the oven."
WHAT....that went on for 35 minutes......
Yip it is all a blurr...........

I can think of 15 things to do with this....

See this really cute wooden frame just waiting for some ideas?

It comes with a little dowel to put in a hole at the bottom on back so it will stand up..and a place to put a picture with little metal clips on the back.
1. Paint it black..and then sand the edges to make look old and peely. Do...one or several...all in a line...
2. Paint it black - glue a little row of old white buttons around the opening.
3. Use scrapbook paper to finish 3 in a row...a stripe - a polka dotty - a plaid all matchy match to hang together.
4. Buy 12 or 16 and paint them all the same color..red...then white (or some mustard gold) and sand and crackle finish and hang them all togetther with little family pictures...3x4 or 4x4 in a big square pattern
5. Paint with gesso...kind of a white wash and then use a holiday napkin or tissue paper - and decopodge (elmers glue or mod podge it on) kind of see through-ish and then add some sparkle sequins or glitter pen to send it over the top cute.
6. Drill holes in the top...about 3 inches apart string ribbon though and tie a knot in front o create the cutest hanger.
7. Same as above but use an old necklace or chainy thing as the hanger. Decorate with a few old jewels...yummy
8. Decopodge torn pieces of sheet music or pages from an old book and  after it is dry rub with brown shoe polish to make it look old and yummy.
9. Paint a holiday color...for whatever season....red - orange - green and put a big floppy silk flower in the center (where the photo should be)  spilling out over onto the frame area...for a cute flower picture.
10. Paint and then cover with lots of layers - using those fun foam flowers in lots of bright colors so it looks like a fun crazy flower garden.
12. Paint and then cover with lots of layers with wooden shapes - you know those you buy -squares, circles, triangle -  in a bag all covered with matchy scarpbook papers...stripe - solid - flowers etc.
Do all one shape or mix them up and have a lots of kinds.
11. Same as above..using black as the background paint and then do a black and white boader on the side and make it look Mary Engelbreiish.
12. Stain it dark - use bits and bobs of old jewelry to decorate.
13. Paint it black and then use a metallic marker to decorate with doodle-dos around.
14. Use texture medium  to make a rough surface...paint it white and then rub oil paint or shoe polish over the surface and buff it so there is lots of texture for an old tin look.
15. Decopodge fabric on to match the room...bows - buttons to finish.
Just to get started...but WAIT - do you want to  know where to get these really cute frames.

Of course the fabric is real honest to goodness vintage flour sacks. Love this fabric! and then carefully decorated with vintage bling, carefully rusted trinkets, vintage silk buttonhole thread,  buttons and such.

All held on with an oversize safety pin - or securely stitched with heavy duty thread....attached  to a recycled paint chip card with a corsage pin.

Everyone is different and unique. The perfect way to wear a little vintage lovin'.

Fantasy

I have a lot of them. Today  my mind wondered into the "What would I do if I had a big bucket of money."  I am not talking like little money...$1000's but like BIG money...like Bill Gates - Oprah kind of money. Here is my fantasy....
I would have a big old house. Fun...old...lots of nooks and crannies and a big wrap around porch.  But, that is not all - it would have a big fun two story house on the property. In the top would be the guest house, with a big comfy beds and fresh flowers  - yummy smelling white bathroom and cheerful decorations through out. Downstairs would be a big fun room with a nice kitchen -big fridge - gas stove - nice cooking arrangement...big eating bar... on one end - kind of like a 'lodge' for family to gather. We would have all the fun toys...a big screen TV for watching movies and sharing family videos...plenty of toys for the littles and a fun play house under the stairs for them to play in with fluffy fun pillows and corners in which to hide and snuggle. Outside between the two buildings would be a wonderful yard (and gardener -remember BIG money) with plenty of room for gatherings and parties and places for grands to play...trampoline and swing and tree house, a wooded area with a little stream and frogs. It would NOT be located next to big water...as I don't really like all the water things...but next to trees and places where gnomes and fairies would live. There would also be an attached garage with a 15 passenger van inside for hauling folks here and there.
