1. It is a BIG FAT head game. It has very little to do with what goes in your mouth - it has a whole lot to do with what goes on in the head.
2. Foods you have never really liked sound really good. Like peanut butter on toast, I don't like peanut butter (except in cookies)...until now.
3. Weighing everyday is compulsive - but not suggested. Our bodies fluctuate, (rhymes with flatulate - hummm) even not-dieting ones, but being hungry for three days/a week! and seeing absolutely no change on that scale is dis-hearting.
4. Smells become intense, probably like when someone stops smoking. I have heard those folks say, when you stop smoking you can smell again. Well, stop eating and the same thing happens. For example, chocolate on someone's breath.
5. One becomes very aware of the food world around them. Notice how many commercials on TV have to do with FOOD. Billboards - magazine ads.
6. Our social life is connected to food. We meet, we talk, we share FOOD. Yummy food. Carrot sticks never seem to disappear but the bowl of M & M's - gone.
7. One has to consume/use -3,500 calories to lose ONE pound. That means 1000 calories less per DAY than you need for one week and lose 2 pounds. (If your body isn't an old one..that loves fat and then that doesn't always work!) The same is true to gain..but heck, that's not that much - 10 candy bars - not 'burned' up will do you the favor.
8. Food makes us HAPPY. Have you ever seen someone eating an ice cream cone with a frown on their face?
9. Old bodies like fat better than young bodies.
10. There is the built in fear...of...can I really do THIS the rest of my life? When I lose the weight - how can I manage all the yummy food around me...beckoning...me to be HAPPY? It would be much easier to just quit eating. I guess that is why gastric-bypass works...you just QUIT eating instead of three times a day, having to think of something to eat, fix something to eat and then sitting down to find peace with the hard crunchy cold (verses soft warm melty yummy gooey) offering that is in front of you.
